During coronavirus outbreak, many countries have faced with serious health hazard and vulnerabilities in health systems since early 2020. As a global citizen, EWB-HK partnered with Sowers Action to collect support from our volunteers to combat together for the overseas disadvantaged community in Myanmar and Nepal.

EWB-HK x Sowers Action 緬甸緊急醫療援助 Myanmar Relief Fund [急需製氧機. 懇救當地 COVID-19患者 Urgent need for oxygen concentrators], July - August 2021

EWB-HK and Sowers Action collaborated to hold a fundraising campaign to purchase oxygen concentrators and pandemic prevention equipment in July-August 2021.

"Sowers Action," which had extensive experience in overseas and Mainland China assistance, was in charge of coordinating procurement and transportation. The 1st round of oxygen concentrator was delivered to Yangon city in late July and more to be delivered to those in risk by the end of August. The fund raised involved the 10L oxygen concentrator, masks, and transportation

Current Status in July 2021

The Myanmar government reported that the local COVID-19 infection was very serious. The COVID-testing rate was around 15K per day, with a daily confirmed cases of 5,657 people (36.8 %). Myanmar people could only practise self-quarantine at home after being diagnosed and expected to recover on their own. In fact, the volume of local testing was low, and the lack of oxygen concentrators and medical care is severe. There were confirmed cases in all of Myanmar's cities and towns; assistance from others were required.

Oxygen concentrators were purchased directly from the mainland and delivered to a cooperative charity organization in Yangon, Myanmar. The local cooperative charity was in charge of deploying resources to local communities in need as well as the local engineering society groups. When the patients' condition improved, the resources were loaned to other recipients, allowing them to be used more effectively.

EWB-HK x Sowers Action, Combating Covid on Foot in Nepal : 720-hour "Run-Walk-Wheelchair" Fundraising, 1 - 30 June 2021

EWB-HK supported the humanitarian service of Sowers Action in Nepal between 1 and 30 June 2021, 30 days in total from day to midnight.

We started from the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower, walked along the promenade to the opposite of New World Millennium HK Hotel and loop back (one way is app 1.8KM). Some participants in wheel chair also joined.
