Urban Sustainability Team
Climate change has posted unprecedented challenges to cities, as well as its built environment, livability and human habits. As a group of professionals, we aspire to bring positive changes and influence to our society, and to better prepare for what is to come under various urban challenges. Specifically, we believe empowering communities through a two-pronged approach – “awareness awakening” and “infrastructural enhancement”, are holistically strengthening the resilience and sustainability capacities of communities facing the imminent urban challenges.
As a result, EWB-HK’s Urban Sustainability Team was formed in 2019. The new endeavor synergizes volunteers with diverse professional backgrounds such as engineering, science, urban planning, architecture and surveying and, offering technical or practical solutions to communities and like-minded NGOs, and aim to:
•Raise awareness of the challenges and solutions of urban sustainability amongst the general public;
•Induce behavourial change towards sustainability in our everyday life;
•mobilize like-minds and volunteers to participate in local and overseas initiatives.
Looking ahead, we will organize knowledge transfer and training sessions for volunteers and partners to enrich their know-how on various urban sustainability topics. In addition, we are looking for community collaboration and implementation in social service projects. External speakers will be invited to share their knowledge and experience covering topics including, but not limited to, climate change and resilience, which also include the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) Aspect #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, as well as sustainability in developing countries and future cities.
Since the formation of the team, they have been serving on a green building design project in Myanmar, and organizing some topical Webinars, namely “EWB-HK Urban Sustainability Series”.
